The Patrician and other shipping off Tynemouth Harbor

Although Lloyd's Register of Shipping for the period lists three full-rigged sailing ships named "Patrician", the one depicted here is the vessel owned and built by Marshall's at Sunderland in 1859. Registered at 1,140 tons and measuring 195 feet in length with a 35.5 foot beam, she began her life trading to India although by the early 1870's had been transferred into the Australian trade.
