The cover with a rectangular lid above low sides and opening to the conforming upper section of the box between two small lidded compartments above the lower section recessed from the notched ends, with a circular lock plate, cloud-shaped hasp and corner reinforcements all of baitong
15½in. (14.3cm.) high, 29½in. (74.9cm.) wide, 6¾in. (17.2cm.) deep

Lot Essay

This portable box was designed to fit between the rails of an official's sedan chair, to be easily removed and taken inside. This standard form accomodated paper and scrolls in the central section, with brushes and seals in the projecting ends.
