Lot Essay

The escutcheon medallion of this caddy is ensigned with the coronet of a Countess. It is labelled as forming part of the Collection of the Dowager Duchess of Montrose. This is likely to have belonged to Duchess Violet Hermione (d.1940), who in 1876 married Douglas 5th Duke of Montrose (d.1925) of Buchan House, Scotland.
