From 1929 until 1931 he has been a student of Eugene van Mieghem and Alphons Proost, who had great influence on his early career. Here he develops an impressionistic style and an interest for the intimacy of city life. In the late 1930's he returned to the Netherlands and moved into a studio at the top floor of Singel 309a in Amsterdam. His first solo exhibition, organised in his own house, was received rather well. In these years he became a member of the Amsterdam artist's societies St. Lucas and De Brug, where he became a regular participant in the exhibitions. In the second half of the 1940's Van IJsseldijk starts making more and more trips abroad, especially to Southern Europe and Morocco. Although he remains true to his impressionism, the influence of these trips is clear. His coloration becomes brighter and he experiments more with his technique. Cees van IJsseldijk can not be regarded as a great renewer of the art history of his time, but this was not his primary intention. He was more interested in capturing moods and atmosphere on canvas. The here offered lots are a representative selection from the oeuvre of this talented and versatile artist.
