This major drawing links very closely to the large body of charcoal drawings exhibited at the Johnstone Gallery, Brisbane in 1963. In the foreword to the catalogue that accompanied this exhibition, Judith Wright stated: "These faces, heads and figures, seen obliquely, through rain-washed windows, or half-closed eyelashes, caught in moments of forgetfulness, and always unconscious of being observed, are drawn with a sureness and swiftness."
