Lot Essay

Eugène Pavy, with Auguste and Jean Le Roy, took out a patent in 1853 for improvements in the production of fabrics whereby clothing, curtains, carpets, etc could be produced at low cost. 'Wallpaper curtains' are reffered to in The International Exhibition Review and Trade Directory (1872-73). These were printed in England and France, and were produced by Pavy, Pretto & Co.
For similar examples see E.34,35-1910, E21161-21167-1957 in the collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum.
