The scroll begins with illustrations of seven crewmen including four Americans and one Polynesian whose ship drifted to the port of Ezo in northern Japan on 1846.5.11. It also documents an American ship which sailed to Tsugaru (present Aomori Prefecture) on 1848.3.22 or 23 and a French ship which arrived in Matsumae, the southern part of Hokkaido on 1848.3.20. The scroll records the uniforms, tools and flags of each vessel.
