Lot Essay
Maeta works at Yanase kiln, Kawara machi, Tottori Prefecture. His ceramics have won awards for nearly twenty-five years in the annual Japan Ceramic Exhibition and Japan Traditional Ceramic Exhibition among many other juried shows. In 1991 his white porcelain vase received the highest prize in the 11th Japan Ceramic Exhibition. Solo exhibitions of his work were held at Mitsukoshi Department Store Gallery, Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 1985, 1991, 1997 and 2000, at Daimaru Department Store Gallery, Tottori in 1996, at Fukuya Department Store Gallery, Hiroshima in 1998 and at Takashimaya Department Store Gallery, Yonago in 1999. He shows at Minami-Aoyama Green Gallery in Tokyo and his work is in many collections including the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, the Tottori Prefecture Museum and the Gifu Prefecture Contemporary Ceramic Art Museum.
