A GREENISH-WHITE JADE RECTANGULAR BALUSTER VASE AND COVER
Qianlong period (1736-1795)
The waisted neck with two lion-mask handles suspending loose rings and carved in shallow relief with cicada panels containing archaistic scrolling motifs, each side of the body well carved in medium relief with scholars and attendants and pavilions in a mountainous landscape with pine and other trees issuing from rocky outcrops, the narrow sides similarly carved with trees and rocks, all between bands of key-pattern at the rim and on the pedestal foot of indented outline, the cover with cicada panels and surmounted by a rectangular finial, the stone of pale greenish-white color with some faint russet inclusions
