A pair of Japanese ivory models of kylins
19th Century
each carved seated on a rectangular base with ferocious expressions, one with its mouth slightly open, incised signatures to the undersides -- 3 7/8in. (9.8cm.) high; an inlaid ivory netsuke of Hotei, seated with open robes with smiling expression, his robes inlaid in horn and stained ivory, incised signature and inset silver seal -- 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) wide; and a small ivory carving of an oni standing on a rocky base with a snake coiled around, inset signed lacquer tablet to the base -- 2½in. (6.3cm.) high, (very minor nibbles).
