GLASS PLATE NEGATIVES OF STANLEY

A collection of sixteen glass plate negatives and copy negatives, including eleven of Stanley, the majority early portraits including two of 'Stanley when mining at Black Hawk City', 'two negative enlargements from the type taken of Stanley when he started for Asia Minor as a youth', 'Livingstone Expedition front face-no helmet' and 'Do-profile' and others, with glass plate negatives of St Asaph workhouse, Cottage at Bowling Green, 'Stanley and his Zanzibari', portraits from 1890 and 1895, and two of his grave, in boxes labelled by Lady Stanley with contents listed (some missing), the negatives 14 x 11in. (356 x 280mm.) and smaller.

A rare group of glass negatives probably assembled in the late 1890s for Dorothy Stanley for a publishing project. The plates include rare American images and Stanley in Africa. (16)
