(Repaired hole to blank area of title of first volume, some browning
and light spotting, the last two volumes with blank margins of the
plate slightly affected by damp.) Contemporary non-uniform half calf,
spines gilt (neat repairs to spines and corners).

FIRST EDITION OF HOOKER'S GREAT EARLY WORK, WITH 'EXQUISITE PLATES' (Rosove), published as three parts in six volumes. Part I is sub-titled 'Flora Antarctica'; part II: 'Flora Novae-Zelandiae' and part III: 'Flora Tasmaniae'. 'The first two volumes, dated respectively 1844 and 1847,... comprised Hooker's original work from the Auckland Islands and Campbell Island (vol.I) and his work plus that of others from Tierra del Fuego, the Falkland Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, South Georgia, Tristan da Cunha, and the Kerguelen Islands (vol.II)... The remaining four volumes are largely a compendium of others' botanical work.
