This atlas volume was issued to accompany Cassin's text volume. The two volumes represent a reworking of the 8th volume of the official report of the Wilkes expedition. This was originally prepared by T.R. Peale but suppressed after his dispute with Wilkes. The fine quality plates include 42 of birds, and 11 of mammals. Cf. Fine Bird Books 114; cf. Haskell 29, 31; cf. Nissen ZBI 834; cf. Wood p.607; cf. Zimmer 675; sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return.
