Autograph letter signed ('Robt F. Scott') to an unidentified correspondent ('Dear Sir'), National Antarctic Expedition, Burlington Gardens, London, 24 June [1901], initialled by recipient 'RB', one page, 4to.

Scott arranges for his correspondent to have a tour of the Discovery under the guidance of 'our Engineer Mr Skelton ... I am very grateful to you for taking so much interest in the matter. Mr Skelton is fully cognizant of the fittings now placed & of those intended'.

The tone of the letter suggests the recipient may have been a benefactor of the expedition. R.W. Skelton (1872-1956) superintended the construction of the Discovery, and served as Chief Engineer during the expedition. The Discovery, which had been launched on 21 March, set off from Cowes for the Antarctic on 6 August 1901.
