Lot Essay

Let It Rock was the first incarnation of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's Kings Road clothing shop. The shop began life in 1971 as Let It Rock selling fashion and accessories for Teddy Boys. In 1973, the name changed to Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die; in 1974, it became Sex: specialists in rubberwear, glamourwear and stagewear and in late 1976 it changed again to Seditionaries, stocking leather and rubber clothing and the bondage wear and provocative t-shirts which have become synonymous with Punk fashion. The shop became a crucial part of the London Punk scene and the history of The Sex Pistols - Glen Matlock worked at the shop on Saturdays from the Let It Rock days onwards, Steve Jones was a regular vistor and John Lydon was auditioned for The Sex Pistols by McLaren in front of the jukebox in the shop.
