lithograph, 1953, on Arches, second (final) state, signed in pencil, numbered 41/50 (there were also five artist's proofs), a deckle edge at the top and bottom, with margins, pale mount-staining, a skinned area at the reverse sheet corners due to removal of old tape, otherwise generally in very good condition, framed
L. 447 x 375mm., S. 660 x 500mm.

Lot Essay

Working in the Mourlot atelier in 1953 Picasso noticed a printing plate lying in a corner that had been used several years before to print an exhibition poster. Picasso seized it, took it home and brought it back the next day thus modified. The original painting is by Victor Orsel (1795-1850)
