FIRST EDITION, of the author's first book AN IMPORTANT LITERARY ASSOCIATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY BURGESS TO GRAHAM GREENE on the front free endpaper: "To Graham Greene from Anthony Burgess Sept., 1957."
It is fitting that Burgess presented a copy of his first published novel to Greene, after having contracted with Heinemann to publish the book. He claimed in his autobiography, "at that time I greatly admired the novels of Graham Greene, and Heinemann was Greene's publisher" (p.365).
