Original coarse-grained grey cloth, stamped in orange on the front cover and in blue and orange on the spine [first binding] (endpapers lightly offset); pictorial dust jacket; WITH THE VERY RARE PLAIN GLASSINE OUTER WRAPPER (few losses at bottom of front and rear panels). Provenance: Hubert Starr (presentation inscription); Carl Peterson.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST BINDING. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY FAULKNER TO HIS CLOSE FRIEND HUBERT STARR on the front free endpaper: "To Herb from Bill Glendale." ADDITIONALLY SIGNED BY FAULKNER on the title: "William Faulkner Glendale Cal. 10 Oct, 1932." An early presentation, just 4 days after publication.
SCARCE INSCRIBED: few inscribed copies of Light in August are known, and none so early.
