A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND COFFEE-CUP AND SAUCER
Circa 1740, blue crossed sword marks, impressed ** to footrim of saucer
The cup with double-scroll ear-shaped handle, one side painted with figures at discussion in a wooded landscape with a distant church, the other with merchants at various pursuits by a quay, within quatrefoil dark-brown line cartouches, the ground enriched with flowering branches in the Kakiemon palette, the saucer with a gallant and companion, two children and another couple near an urn on a large pedestal in a wooded river-landscape, within paired iron-red concentric circles, the yellow-ground underside with flowering branches, gilt line rims
