Lot Essay

William Bally active between 1832-1851, was a Phrenologist and wax modeller. He taught wax modelling at Manchester Mechanics' Institution for three years. A paper label inscribed in ink Peter Langford Brooke, to the reverse of the frame, possibly identifies the sitter.
