Lot Essay
This miniature illustrates how Faridun sent his counsellor, Jandal, to find three princesses to marry his sons. In Yemen he found three suitable girls but their father, King Sarv, was against the idea and resorted to various ruses to prevent the match. Eventually the three boys came to Yemen to woo the girls and were successful.
A miniature illustrating the same story from another Shahnameh of the early 14th century is in the collection of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan (Canby, S.: Princes, poets and paladins, London, 1998, no.1, pp. 21-2)
