A DAMASCUS POTTERY TILE PANEL
Ottoman Syria, 17th century
Comprising part of a large interlace design formed of cusped blue octafoil panels containing radiating floral motifs divided by smaller turquoise roundels, apple-green interstices, all linked by interlaced strapwork, the lower floral octafoil panel filled by an inscription panel with an invocation to Ibrahim, five roundels around it with the names Abu Bakr, Allah, Muhammad, 'Uthman and 'Ali, a band of reciprocal trefoil-motifs below, very slight restorations, mounted together within wooden frame
