Lot Essay

The velvet as it was shown in London in 1931, (Pope op.cit.) was later cut in two; the present piece is one of the two halves (the whereabouts of the other half is unknown). Another piece from the original floorspread was exhibitied at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in The Indian Heritage, 1982, no. 224. See page 88 of the exhibition catalogue
