Lot Essay

Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi was born in the town of Mariupol on the Azov sea, Kuindzhi studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of the Arts, trained under the patronage of the famous seascape painter Ivan Aivazovskii. He painted essentailly landscapes and seascapes.

Works by Kuindzhi are extremely rare on the market, and a painting by this artist with such a detailed provenance is almost unique.
