FROM THE CELLARS OF THE DOMAINE DE LA ROMANEE-CONTI
'The Domaine' familarly known as DRC, needs little introduction. Known as the central pearl in the Côte de Nuits necklace, its wines are of the highest quality, demand always exceeding supply. The Domaine de la Románee-Conti owns 27 hectares of vines in prime sites in the commune of Vosne-Romanée together with a small holding in the Côte de Beaune. The top of the tree is Romanée-Conti itself, a monopole (wholly owned vineyard of 1.8 hectares), La Tache, also a monopole with 6.06 hectares. Richebourg 3.51 hectares, Romanée-Saint-Vivant 5.29 hectares, Grands Echézeaux 3.53 hectares and 4.67 in Echézeaux. Also Vosne-Romanée, Suchots 1.02 hectares. Of the greatest white wine though, Montrachet DRC, only a precious 0.67 hectares and slightly less of Bâtard-Montrachet. MB
Romanée-Conti--Vintage 1961
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
One recent note: served by the proprietor, M. Aubert de Villaine in the Harvesters' dining room at the Domaine in November 1995. Deep in colour with noticable thick 'tears' or 'legs' a marvellously deep, rich, harmonious bouquet which was still evolving after an hour in the glass. A superb wine with the characteristic DRC 'peacock's tail' spreading it's flavour in the mouth. Now extremely rare. M.b.
