A magnificent vintage though the excessively hot summer created unsual, indeed unprecedented, wine-making conditions. However glorious wines were made, with extraordinarily high natural sugars. Two notes: warm amber; lovely, singed Tokay-like flavour with gloriously honeyed aftertaste. More recently, similar in many ways. Very rich, fragrant; sweet and powerful. Last noted at the Welt- Raritätenprobe at Schloss Johannisberg, Nov 2000. M.B.
