Angelo Gaja is unquestionably Piedmont's pre-eminent producer, to quote Burton Anderson again: "boundless energy, charismatic flair and elevated prices have made him Italy's most admired and discussed winemaker". Barbaresco, Sori San Lorenzo--Vintage 1985

Superb vintage, superb wine. Sori San Lorenzo is Angelo's favorite, his first wine to bear the name of a single vineyard. Several notes: deeply coloured, rich, powerful and spicy fragrance; firm, multi-layered, well endowed with tannin and acidity and great length. Last tasted March 1997. A five star wine which has been selling for record prices at Christie's in New York. M.B.
