A GROUP OF ETRUSCO-VILLANOVAN BRONZE ARMS AND ARMOUR
CIRCA 8TH-4TH CENTURY B.C.
Comprising a helmet of Negau type, the high domed crown with median ridge and carination above the brim, 5th-4th Century B.C., 8 in. (20.2 cm.) high; a Villanovan circular breastplate, with stippled decoration including a band of stylized animals around central star, an outer band of stamped wedges, small concentric circles and raised bosses between, three large bosses on one edge secured by attachment rings on the underside, an attachment plate with smaller boss on the rim opposite, central button stud, circa 7th-6th Century B.C., 9 7/8 in. (25 cm.) diam.; a Villanovan dagger and fragmentary scabbard, the dagger with seven remaining attachment rivets in the hilt, the triangular blade with fine engraved lines parallel to either edge, hatched bands bordered by twin lines of zigzag on the scabbard, circa early 8th Century B.C., 19¼ in. (49 cm.) long; and a socketed spear blade and butt, the leaf-shaped blade with tapered mid-rib, pierced for attachment, the butt tapering to a point with band of fine grooves around the edge, 12 in.
