NOTE:
Wu Zhen was born in the 16th century, and his many sobriquet names included Zhenzhi, Yuanzhen, Zhuyu, Zhuli, Xuehong. Zhang was a native of Huating (modern Songjian, Shanghai). He was an able landscape painter, following the Huang Gongwang tradition, and much praised by Dong Qichang. Zhang was extremely particular and critical of his works - any slight dis-satisfaction would result in a piece being destroyed by him immediately. For brief biography, see Zhongguo Meishujia Renming Cidian, Shanghai Renmin Meishu Chubanshe, 1981, p.295
