MOGG'S DISSECTED GLOBE Published march 1st.1812 by EDWD.MOGG No.14 Little Newport Street Leicester Square.
A fine and rare 4-inch (10.1cm.) diameter card terrestrial globe, comprising twelve pieces of coloured engraved card, slotting together to form the appearance of a globe, two of the upright sections forming two hemispheres, one showing the Americas and the Pacific Ocean, the other showing Europe, Africa and Asia, each graduated around the circumference in degrees in four quadrants, the equatorial ungraduated, Europe coloured in green, Africa and North America coloured in red, Asia, Australasia and South America coloured in yellow, with country names and some rivers shown, the other two upright pieces blank on one side and with a rudimentary celestial map on the other plotted to the latitude of London (51°32') and surrounded by degrees in four quadrants representing the meridian, with lines for the horizon and colures, the tropics, the polar circles, the equator and the ecliptic with zodiacal sigils, four further labelled card discs slotted to fit into the uprights for the polar and tropic circles, a disc for the equator graduated around the circumference in degrees in four quadrants and hours I-XII (x2) and with indications of morning, noon, evening and midnight for London, and various other cities and locations marked around the hour dial, two further semi-circular sections arranged to fit at an angle to represent the ecliptic, graduated around the circumference in degrees in four quadrants, days of the month and days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils and pictures, a final disc acting as the base and compass with globe title, maker's details, and a thirty-two point wind rose, with the original card slipcase, covered with blue paper engraved with an image of a fine globe stand, horizon and meridian with the title MOGG's DISSECTED GLOBE For the Instruction of Youth in GEOGRAPHY PUBLISHED BY EDWARD MOGG, No. 14, LITTLE NEWPORT-STREET LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON (some wear to edges) with the EXPLANATION AND DESCRIPTION in a sixteen-page booklet, with advertisements for Mogg's other products on the back page, including Mogg's Street Directory, Mogg's London and Mogg's New Map of the Country, and an advertising card for the dissecting globe, the slipcase -- 7 x 5 5/8in.
