Each piece enamelled and gilt with the coat-of-arms and crest of Spencer impaling Randall including the motto DEUS OMNIUM DISPENSATOR, the rims with a pale iron-red and gilt trellis-pattern band above gilt dart-pattern, comprising:
A pair of oval bombé soup-tureens, covers and stands, with berry finials and entwined berried strap handles, the stands 14 5/8 in. (37 cm.) wide
A pair of shaped oval bombé vegetable tureens, liners and covers, with berry finials and entwined berried strap handles, 12 in. (30.5 cm.) across the handles

Lot Essay

This service was made for Henry Spencer of Dulwich and is being offered for sale by a descendant of the family. The Spencer arms are the same as those of The Earl Spencer, to whom Henry Spencer was related. See D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p.706.
