Lot Essay
Cornelis de Witt (1623-1672) was burgomaster of Dordrecht and convicted of conspiracy against the life of stadholder Willem III, he was not found guilt and still trialed for banishment without reasons given. The vengeful mob slaughtered him and his visiting brother Johan in the prison in the Hague.
