Lot Essay

This thoroughbred stallion is one of a famous series by the most renouned equestrian sculptor, J.P Mêne, entitled 'Cheval au Palmier' and numbered 42 in his catalogue. The dating of the original is generally attributed to the 1850's and 60's, during which the romantic allure of the North African continent captured the popular imagination.
