A German medallion-set salver
Signature and mark of S. Friedeberg and Söhne, Berlin, circa 1855
Octafoil and with moulded borders, the centre chased with foliate scrolls, the border applied with eight putto mask, shell and foliate scroll cartouches, each inset with swivel mounted medallion, the centre similarly applied and inset, the reverse with suspension ring, marked on reverse and engraved 'S. Friedeberg Soehne Hofjuweliere Berlin fec.'

The centre medallion depicts Frederick the Great on horseback, the obverse with the sculpture of Frederick the Great, completed in 1851, and the inscription 'FRIEDRICH DER GROSSEN FRIEDRICH WILHELM DER DRITTE MDCCCXXXX, VOLLENDET UNTER FRIEDRICH WILHELM DEM VIERTEN MDCCCLI', 'To Frederick the Great, Friedrich Wilhelm the Third 1840, completed under Friedrich Wilhelm the Fourth 1851' and 'Christian Rauch inv. et sculp', 'XXXI MAI', '31ST OF MAY', AND 'KULLRICH F.'.

The medallions on the border depict:

1) Profile portrait busts of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV (1795-1861) and his wife Elisabeth (1801-1873), daughter of Maximillian Joseph, King of Bavaria; the obverse, Time held prisoner by Cupid, with the inscription XXIX NOV. MDCCCXLVIII, and 'P. CORNELIUS INV. K. FISCHER FEC.'
2) Profile portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm, Prince of Prussia, later Emperor Wilhelm I, with the inscription 'Oberbefehlshaber d. Armee a. Rhein 1849', (Commander in Chief of the Army on the Rhine 1849); the obverse with the scene of St. Michael slaying the dragon and with inscription P. CORNELIUS INV. W. KULLRICH FEC.'
3) Profile portraits of William Frederick Charles, Prince of the Netherlands, and Ludovika Auguste Wilhelmina Amalie, Princess of Prussia, with an abbreviated Latin inscription 'GUIL. FRED. CAR. NEDERL. PRINC. ET. LUDOV. AUG. GUIL. AMAL. BORVSS. PRINC.; the obverse with Latin inscription within a pyramid within ribbon-tied foliage fronds, which reads 'FREDER. PR. SUMMO. MAGISTRO. OPTIMO FRATRI. FELICISS. CONJUGII. EXACT. QUINTUM. LUSTRUM. CELEBRANTI. FRATRES. LIBERI. CAEMENT. NEDERL.', 'To Prince Fredrick, the greatest leader, the best brother and the happiest husband celebrating the passage of his fifth 'lustrum' (25 years), with further inscription 'I. P. SCHOUBERG. F'.

4) Profile portraits of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, later Emperor Wilhelm I, and his wife Augusta, with inscription 'Die Stadt Coblenz zur frohen Erinnerung an den 11 Juni 1854','The City of Coblenz in happy commemoration of the 11th June 1854'); the obverse with male and female personifications of the Rhine and Mosel rivers and the coat-of-arms of the City of Koblenz. With inscription 'G. Loos dir. Bubert fec.'

5) Profile portraits of Anna, Princess of Prussia and Friedrich, Prince of Hesse; the obverse with a scene of Hymen, God of Marriage and with classical personifications of the couple with their Heraldic attributes of an eagle and a lion. The inscription reads 'Vermählt d. XXVI Mai MDCCCLIII', 'Married on the 26th May 1853' and 'P. V CORNELIUS INV. W. KULLRICH FEC.'.
6) Profile portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm IV, King of Prussia; the obverse with a scene of industrial buildings and the inscription 'Glück auf dem Schutzherrn' ('Greetings to the Protector'), 'Die Mansfelder Gewerkschaften am 1. Juni 1846' ('The Unions of Mansfeld on 1st June 1846').

7) Profile portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm IV, King of Prussia; the obverse with a view of the Zeughaus (The Arsenal), Berlin, with inscription 'AUSSTELLUNG VATERLAENDISCHER GEWERBSERZEUGNISSE VOM JAHRE 1844. PREIS DEM... ZUERKANNT', 'THE NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS OF IN THE YEAR 1844. THE PRIZE PRESENTED TO...' and C. PFEUFFER FEC.'.
