Lot Essay

Although post dating the wedding service of Prince Wilhelm and Princess Auguste Viktoria by over twenty years, this dessert-stand and the following five examples are almost exact copies of those commissioned in 1881 as shown by the illustration in J. Lessing, Das Tafelsilber ihrer Koniglichen Hoheiten des Prinzen und der Prinzessin Wilhelm von Preussen, Berlin, 1883, pl. 18, of the orginial dessert-stands, one of which was exhibited Hanau, Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus, Kaiserliches Gold und Silber, Schätze der Hohenzollern aus dem Schloss Huis Doorn, Berlin, 1985-1986, cat. no. 131.
