Jaap Gidding (1887-1955) studied in Rotterdam, Paris, Munich and
Berlin. In 1921 he decorated the Tuschinsky theatre in Amsterdam in a
colourful expressionist style of which the carpet attracted
international attention. Gidding cooperated with Amsterdam School
architects such as Piet Kramer and H.Th. Wijdeveld. His carpet designs were executed by KVT in Rotterdam and later by De Saedeleer in Belgium. Apart from his carpet designs, Gidding designed glass for Leerdam, ceramics, wallpaper, glass mosaics, wall decorations and leaded glass.
