Lot Essay

Sir Basil Zaharoff (1850-1936), born in Anatolia, Turkey and educated in England, was as an international financier and munitions manufacturer. He was best known as the Director and Chairman of the Vickers-Armstrong munitions firm. For his services to the Allies during World War I, Zararoff was knighted by King George V and was decorated by the French government.
