Lot Essay

William Callow was married on 2 July 1846 and set off on the next day on a honeymoon tour of Europe. He travelled to Venice via Verona and Vicenza. During his visit Callow made a number of sketches which he subsequently worked up. The first four storey building in Venice the Ca'Foscari was built for Doge Francesco Foscari in 1437.
