A comparable Buddha with a similar face and from the same period is illustrated in Chinese Buddhist Stone Sculpture, Veneration of the Sublime, Osaka Municipal Museum of Art, 1995, p. 127, no. 152. Another example of a Buddha from the Tang dynasty is kept at the Palace Museum and shows the same drapery falling in "V" shape as illustrated in Saburo Matsubara, Chuugoku Bukkyo Chokukushi Ron (The Path of Chinese Buddhist Sculpture), volume 3, Tokyo 1995, p.708. Two sculptures of Buddha seated on a high pedestal are illustrated in Son of Heaven, Imperial Arts of China, Seattle 1988, nos. 45 et 46.
