Lot Essay

This watercolor relates closely to a major oil painting titled Spectres from the North, 1891, at the Gilcrease Institute, Tulsa, Oklahoma, (A. Morand, Thomas Moran: The Field Sketches, Norman, Oklahoma, 1996, no. 69), as well as to a series of drawings of icebergs dated April 28, 1890, all located at the Gilcrease Institute.

This work will be included in Stephen L. Good and Phyllis Braff's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's works.
