An oak panel back armchair, English, late 17th century
with an arched foliate carved cresting and lozenge filled panel with foliate and smaller lozenge filled corners (these corners later carved), the unusually high downswept arms raised on turn supports and on block and turned legs joined by stretchers, retoed, replaced seat and three stretchers, bearing a label to the reverse W.F. GREENWOOD & SONS, ART DEALERS, 24 STONEGATE, YORK and with painted inventory number beneath 1649 -- 25½in. (65cm.) wide, 43in. (110cm.) high, 20in. (51cm.) deep
