A large brocade hanging, the ground of yellow satin brocaded with a large-scale phoenix in flight above a turbulent sea-wave border and billowing polychrome clouds, with craggy rockwork rising from the waves, joined to an upper frieze of cloud bands, the motifs outlined in gilt, with inserts of green silk brocade woven with gilt dragons amidst clouds with kinran bindings, 18th century (some wear and fading, probably reassembled, the green brocade borders added later)--85 x 126in.
