The rectangular padded seat covered in associated petit point needlework, on cabriole legs headed by scrolls, with pointed pad feet, one ear replaced, the webbing probably original, the needlework second quarter 18th Century

Lot Essay

A George I walnut wing armchair with ratchet back and needlework uphostery, formerly in the celebrated collections of both Sir George Donaldson (d. 1924) and Percival D. Griffiths (d. 1937), was sold by the executors of the late Mrs. Gabrielle Keiller, in these Rooms, 14 November 1996, lot 26. It appears in several 20th Century publications, including R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, 1954, rev.ed., vol. I, p. 260, fig. 103.
