A FINE LOUIS XV FOUR-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by Nicolas Delions (fl. 1736-1765), marked, Paris, 1757/1758, with the charge and discharge marks of Eloy Brichard 1756-1762, the flange struck with another unidentified mark
Large oval box, the cover and base boldly chased in four-colour gold with flowersprays on a sunburst ground, framed by gadrooned c-scrolls interspersed by small flowers, the four cartouches on the burnished gold sides similarly chased with flowersprays on sunburst grounds

Lot Essay
Nicolas Delions became a warden of the guild of the Parisian goldsmiths in 1758, the year the present box was made. Delions retired as early as in 1765, had left his shop by 1768 and died in 1777.
