bearing various mostly rubbed marks including a charge mark of Jean-Jacques Prevost 1762-1768, the miniature Polish School, circa 1770
Rectangular box, the cover, four side and base panels centred by horizontal octagonal enamel plaques painted with scenes in the Louis XIII-style on the cover, in the Lancret-style on the sides and in the Teniers-style on the base, all within husk borders, on burnished gold panels engraved with sunburst spandrels, the matted gold borders stamped with a Greek key pattern, flowerheads in the corners, gold-lined interior, the inside of the lid set with a glazed gouache portrait miniature depicting Stanislas II Augustus Poniatowski (1732-1798), last king of Poland 1764-1795, facing left in silvered breastplate, wearing the blue sash of the Royal Polish Order of the White Eagle and the ribbon and jewel of the Royal Polish Order of St-Stanislas around his neck, holding a baton in his left hand, his plumed helmet, trees, brown drapery and landscape in the background
