MENDELSSOHN-Bartholdy, Felix (1809-1847). Autograph letter signed ('Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy') to Mrs [Elizabeth] Horsley, 103 Great Portland Street, 19 June 1832, in English, 2 pages, 8vo, integral address leaf (sections cut from integral leaf).

The young composer expresses thanks for 'Mr Horsley's beautifull [sic] present ... he knows ... how great a treat I am to receive by his music', complains of a headache - 'I beg you will excuse my bad letter for this reason' - hopes to see her the next day 'as early as I can get off from a musical party', and gives news of a letter from his family, who, he naively adds, are 'not at all angry with me for my two last letters'.

The recipient was the wife of the composer William Horsley (1774-1858). The family were among Mendelssohn's closest friends in London.
