Lot Essay

The present lot is highly sought after by collectors of American pocket watches as it is part of the very first production run of the illustrious Illinois Watch Co., founded in 1869. Named after one of original directors, J.T. Stuart, the Stuart model was produced in only 100 examples - the present lot numbered 56. By the time the Illinois Watch Co. was sold to Hamilton in 1927, five million watches had been manufactured.
