A PRIVATE CELLAR OF EXCEPTIONAL MATURE BORDEAUX, BARSAC, SAUTERNES AND FINE CHAMPAGNE
Recently removed from excellent cellarage in the heart of Geneva and now lying at Christie's warehouse Fert
It is always an exciting moment when a cellar of mature wine is inspected and even more so when the wines discovered are of the highest pedigree. Here is such a cellar, where all the wines were purchased directly from Bordeaux after first release. The merits of perfect cellarage are clearly evident, the bottles having excellent levels despite their venerable age.
This collector's tastes were specific, having a penchant for three great vintages from Bordeaux: 1955, 1959 and 1961, and a particular interest in large format bottles.
This is a chance to acquire some of the best Bordeaux ever produced in the last century with impeccable provenance, in rare formats and in quantity

Château La Mission-Haut-Brion--Vintage 1955
Pessac (Graves), cru classé. Château-bottled
Lightly bin-soiled, dusty and stained labels, exceptionnal for age. Levels are all base of neck or better. Excellent general appearance
Tasting notes:...Most recently with an astonishing spicy bouquet, eucalyptus, raspberries - almost like '45 Mouton. Very exciting wine, crisp fruit but a bit tart on the finish. Last noted at The La Réserve Tasting, June 2000. At best, 5 stars. Should still be very good. Michael Broadbent. Vintage Wine.
Even allowing for the greatness of Haut-Brion and Mouton-Rothschild, the 1955 La Mission (100 points; last tasted 10/94) is the 'wine of the vintage'. It possesses a sweet, cedary, clove, smoke and black raspberry nose and rich, full-bodied, remarkably harmonious flavors that ooze with ripe fruit, glycerin, and heady alcohol...this wine can be safely drunk for 10-15 more years.
