A Derby (Sampson Hancock) dessert plate
Circa 1880, puce crown, crossed batons and D marks with SH initials
Painted with a spray of pink roses and buds below a gilt dentil well, the border with a band of pink roses below a shaped gadrooned rim
8½ in. (21.7 cm.) diam.
Provenance
The Cox Collection, purchased in 1908, an original sample plate sent to Queen Victoria from which a service was ordered for the Princess Royal on the occassion of her marriage, according to a paper label.
