Lot Essay

From Cooper's tour along the river Meuse in 1829 he made a number of sketches which were later used as studies for finished oils. It is possible that the present picture is Moulin Beauford, near Hoy, Belgium, Cooper's exhibit at the Society of British Artist's, 1834, no. 148.

We are grateful to Kenneth Westwood for his help in preparing this, and the other catalogue entries on Thomas Sidney Cooper.
